This year starts with the Cathedral of Notre Dame in Paris. I remembered the sad fire there. Last year was a tough one for everyone. Though this year will be better!

2021年のカレンダーはパリのノートルダム大聖堂からスタート。2020は大変な1年で、明るいニュースも少なくて、ノートルダムが火事で焼けてしまったことをふと思い出して描いた。想いの詰まった建物が、修復してまた素敵な姿を見せてくれますよう。2021はもっと良い年になりますよう。復活、再興を思って描いた1枚。

Blue Lagoon, Iceland for February. I haven’t been there but have been longing to visit.

2月はアイスランドのブルーラグーン。自然がとても美しいらしい。男女平等。ビョークやシガーロスが生まれた場所。小さい国だがすごく興味深い。

March is a sparrow. When I saw a post on SNS of a Spanish friend that wrote about sparrows, I got to know that sparrows also live in Spain.

3月はスズメ。スペイン人の知人がsnsにスズメについて書いたポストをあげていて、スズメってスペインにもいるんだ、と思って描いた1枚。

April is Schwarzwälder Kirschtorte. I like the cake and traditional costumes there.

4月は大好きな黒い森のさくらんぼのケーキ。ドイツ〜オーストリアの辺りのケーキが本当に美味しい。南ドイツの黒い森で名産のキルシュ(さくらんぼの蒸留酒)をたっぷり使ったそれはそれは美味しいケーキ…民族衣装もとてもかわいい。タンネンのキルシュヴァッサーのパッケージに描かれた女の子が着てるのもこの衣装。

May is Krakow in Poland, the castle of Wawel.

5月はポーランド・クラクフ のヴァヴェル城がモチーフ。東欧は木のおもちゃを売るお店が多く、種類も多く、値段も安めなのでお土産には木のおもちゃをよく買う。

June is the rose festival in Bulgaria. I talked with friends who had got married around the time about having children in the future when I had been drawing this. And the friend is gonna give birth to her baby.

6月はブルガリアのバラ祭り。子どもを抱いている絵にしたのは、これを描いている時期にちょうど結婚する友人と子どもについての話をしたから。そして、その友人は近々母になるらしい。ハッピーな話題が嬉しい。

July is Nice, Côte d’Azur in southern France. The blue is so beautiful, enough to attract a lot of famous painters.
I’d like to visit there someday and see the works of Jean Cocteau.

7月はニース、南フランスのコートダジュール。南仏の青は色んな画家が惚れるほど美しいらしく、いつか行きたい場所の一つ。ジャンコクトーの作品も観に行きたい。

August is the cheese market in Holland.

8月はオランダのチーズ市場。オランダで買ったゴーダチーズはめっちゃ美味しかった。

September is Bodleian Library in Oxford. It’s famous for the shooting spot of the Harry Potter film.
I regret that I hadn’t been there in spite of staying in Oxford for some months.

9月はオックスフォードのボドリアン図書館。読書の秋ということで。ハリーポッターのロケ地にもなったので有名な図書館。
オックスフォード滞在したのに行かなかったことをすごく後悔している。

October is delicious food in Italy.

10月はイタリアの美味しい食べ物達。パスタ、ピッツァ、魚介、サラミ…どこで何を食べても美味しかったイタリア。

November is autumn in London!
This motif comes from a pic I took when I was there.
Flat mate’s shoes and my shoes, and fallen colored leaves made a picture describing autumn.
Was beautiful and still green in my mind.

11月は思い出のロンドン、秋。フラットメイトの黒いマーチンとわたしの茶色いビルケンのブーツ。オレンジや黄色の落ち葉の上を歩いていて、絵になるなと撮った写真がモチーフで。懐かしい。

December is the Christmas in Budapest, Hungary. Sad news came when I drew this calendar, which is that the brother of my Hungarian friend had died. I remember they took me around the city when in Budapest. RIP

12月はハンガリーブダペストのクリスマス。語学学校で知り合ったハンガリアンとその弟が案内してくれた。昨年、その弟が亡くなったことを知って…若いのに。ご冥福をお祈りします。ハンガリーのクリスマス装飾はシックで控えめだったが、綺麗だった。
